English Immersion Environment

  • English is our medium of instruction except for Buddhist Studies, Chinese Language, Citizenship and Social Development, Chinese Literature, Chinese History, Ethics & Religious Studies, Tourism and Hospitality Studies, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Careers Planning Education(S4) and Moral and Civic Education (S4).
  • Our English immersion environment enables students to extend their English learning experience beyond the classroom.
  • We encourage students to speak English out of class and talk with the NET and Teachers in English.
  • We host one to two overseas exchange students every year. The student attends various senior form classes. Schoolmates will be engaged in authentic English communications through daily contacts with the exchange student.
  • Students use much English in activities such as drama course, drama show and Drama Festival competition, English Speaking Contests and Speech Festival participation.
  • Students also listen and speak English during morning assemblies, Student Union election campaigns and other official functions.
  • Several weeks of staying in overseas countries such as the U.S. and Australia for English immersion in summer holidays offers another enjoyable learning experience. .
  • The 2-week Secondary One School Life Adaptation Week aims at helping students to overcome barries of learning English.

Native English-speaking Teacher

Hi everyone!

My name’s Cyndi Chong and I’m the new Native English Teacher (NET) at Buddhist Sin Tak College. I have been teaching at the school for about a month now and am settling in well thanks to the friendly teachers, staff and students. So far, I have really enjoyed meeting students inside and outside the classroom, as they have shown me how motivated and talented they all are in their own unique and individual way. I look forward to getting to know each and every student more and helping them to improve their English, more importantly, to spark their love for the language.

Let me first tell you a bit about myself, I was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. I studied a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education at the University of New South Wales and majored in English and Japanese. After I graduated, I taught in Sydney and Japan. During my two years in Japan, I taught Primary and Secondary students in Fukushima and Izu-Oshima. I have been teaching in Hong Kong for just over two years now and continue to love the experience!

I enjoy traveling to different countries and exploring new cultures. For example, U.S.A. (Hawaii, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas), Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg), Turkey (Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale), Italy (Rome, Florence, Tuscany) and Thailand (Chang Mai, Phuket, Bangkok). I would love to share my travel stories with you.

Please come visit me at the English Corner whenever you’re free. I look forward to speaking to you and getting to know you better.

Cyndi Chong.

Ms. Ho’s Healthy Eating Yogurt Making Class

On 12th December, 1C students learnt about healthy eating. They were quizzed on the calories of different types of fruit. Students made their own delicious Yogurt Fruit cups with an array of nutritious ingredients – homemade toasted muesli, banana, kiwi, blackberry, strawberry and low-fat natural yogurt. The best part was they got to taste their creation right away!

Mr. Faan’s Bubble Making Session

On 2nd December, 2016, 1B class learnt about properties of water and water tension by selected 4A Science students in the SAC. After, students were escorted to the playground to experiment with making bubbles. All students had a great time and were able to learn from this hands-on experience.
